The boxing legend Mike Tyson is set to return this summer, filling boxing fans with excitement. He is scheduled to face social media influencer Jake Paul at the iconic AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The match will be broadcast on Netflix. Tyson’s last fight came nearly four years ago in an exhibition against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. Now “Iron Mike” is returning to the ring amid immense anticipation. Notably, Jake showcased his boxing skills on the undercard of Tyson’s last exhibition, where he scored a knockout victory against NBA star Nate Robinson.
UFC veteran discussed the potential earnings of Tyson
In the wake of the fight’s announcement, there has been debate online about the rules, age difference and payout for each fighter. Recently, UFC veteran Henry Cejudo, along with co-host Kamaru Usman, discussed Tyson’s potential earnings on their recent podcast episode. Cejudo and Usman discussed on their podcast the significant financial incentive that brought “Kid Dynamite” back in the boxing ring at the age of nearly 60.
Cejudo has fueled speculation about a possible purse for Tyson in his upcoming match against “The Problem Child.” The former UFC champion discussed the anticipated earnings during an episode of the podcast Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru and Henry. “Triple C” expressed his respect for Tyson’s dedication to training and suggested that he could get a substantial raise.
“He’s probably going to wind up making close to about 20 million and he’s about to turn 58 years old,” said Cejudo.
Cejudo expressed concern over the age difference
However, Cejudo also expressed concern over the significant age difference between Tyson, 57 and his opponent, Jake, who is 27. Despite acknowledging Mike’s approach to training, Henry showed discomfort with the dynamics of the match-up.
“I don’t like it, but I was with Mike when he was preparing for his fight with Roy Jones Jr. This dude is disciplined, he gets moody when he’s in fight camp and doesn’t smoke as much. He runs every day at 5 a.m.,” said Cejudo.
The UFC veteran also emphasized Tyson’s tremendous fighting spirit and suggested he remains a force in the ring. Cejudo concluded, “If there’s anyone super ferocious who can potentially take this guy out, it’s Mike.”
