Second title match for UFC 300 has been announced that features a BMF title clash between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway. This announcement came after Dana White’s revelation of the strawweight title bout between champion Zhang Weili and Yan Xiaonan. Holloway called out “The Highlight,” and if he wins the match, he may get the opportunity to face Islam Makhachev at UFC 300. Other bouts confirmed for this historic event include Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan, Jiri Prochazka vs. Alexander Rakic, Kelvin vs. Kattar vs. Aljamain Sterling, Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt, and Bo Nickels vs. Cody Brundage.
“Blessed” won the BMF title last year
Gaethje won the BMF title last year at UFC 291 by knocking out Dustin Poirier. The title was originally introduced for the UFC 244 headliner between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. The belt was captured by Gaethje after his impressive performance last year.
While Gaethje was expected to compete for the lightweight title against Islam Makhachev, he is now set to face Holloway, who is aiming for the featherweight title. He suffered three losses to champion Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title. However, he won his last two matches, one against Arnold Allen and the other against “The Korean Zombie.”
Holloway was on a 13-fight winning streak from 2014 to 2018, but his streak came to an end by Dustin Poirier at UFC 236. In this highly competitive bout, Poirier won by unanimous decision, claiming the interim UFC Lightweight Championship. Both fighters were recognized for their outstanding performances with Fight of the Night bonuses.
