During the PBKS vs. DC match, the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mohali was packed as the heroic Rishabh Pant made his comeback to the field. After a 453-day break, Pant was showered with attention as he made his way across the field. In December 2022, he was involved in a nearly fatal vehicle accident. Google India created a special tweet to welcome the returning hero, which was the icing on the cake.
Notably, Pant made his competitive cricket debut 15 months after he was last seen for India in whites against Bangladesh in December 2022. In a special tweet, Google India emphasized the injury break suffered by the wicketkeeper-batter, captioning it, “It’s been a long wait, welcome back #IPL.”
IPL 2024:
The 24-year-old was doubtful for a full season ahead of IPL 2024 after undergoing numerous operations and rigorous training sessions to make his comeback. Even DC management was hesitant to give their captain the gloves immediately upon his return prior to the start of the lucrative season. Before the season, BCCI, however, provided clarification on Pant’s fitness, deeming him match-fit following an extensive rehabilitation.
On the day of the game, Harshal Patel interrupted the Capitals captain’s return to action, preventing him from fully enjoying the day. After 18 of 13 games, Pant returned to the hut, but the Delhi Capitals would have been relieved to have their talisman batter back after a year.
In the match between PBKS and DC, Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and decided to bat first. Following contributions of 33 and 32 from Impact Player Abhishek Porel and Shai Hope, the hosts folded Pant and his team on 174 runs. David Warner, wearing the captain’s hat in place of Pant, put 29 runs on the board right away.
Following his final match for India against Bangladesh in December 2022, the 26-year-old took a lengthy hiatus from cricket due to catastrophic injuries he sustained in a vehicle accident. Due to this unfortunate tragedy, he was unable to participate in significant competitions, such as the Asia Cup, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the IPL, the ICC World Test Championship Final, and the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, the 26-year-old will assume David Warner’s captaincy and guide the Delhi Capitals in the forthcoming season.
