Ex-strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and middleweight veteran Ian Heinisch have recently informed the UFC of their retirements from the sport. UFC officials confirmed this on Tuesday. Joanna was technically retired by 2022 when she called it quits after her loss to Zhang Weili at UFC 275. Although she has not fought since then, Jedrzejczyk has remained a part of the UFC’s anti-doping program and has not reported her retirement from the promotion yet.
Joanna suffered a injury Â
After announcing the retirement, Jedrzejczyk considered a comeback but eventually suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery, scrambling her plans to fight again. She retired with an overall record of 16-5, including five defences of the UFC strawweight title. Heinisch, on the other hand, previously announced he was taking an indefinite break from the sport and was planning to remove himself from the UFC’s anti-doping program, which is assisted by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
Ian expressed health concernsÂ
Heinisch has expressed concern over his health, and this caused him to take a step back from the sport before informing the UFC of his retirement. On Instagram, He stated, “I’m just making the decision to take a step back and get out of the USADA pool, do some peptides, and do some other treatments to heal. That’s what I am trying to do right now. Yes, it’s been tough, but it’s been a long journey, and I have to do it. I can’t make my head worse.”
There is definitely a possibility of their comeback Â
Ian compiled a record of 14-5 during his career, which included a seven-fight run with the UFC after joining the promotion via Dana White’s Contender Series. It is possible that Jedrzejczyk or Heinisch could decide to fight again, but it would require them to re-enter the UFC’s anti-doping program and pass the test for at least six months before being allowed to fight again.
