Bayern Munich Make Michael Olise Contract Extension a Priority
Speculation over Michael Olise’s future at Bayern Munich has intensified, but sporting director Max Eberl has now made the club’s position clear: Bayern want to keep the France international beyond the end of his current contract in 2029. The German champions are yet to begin formal negotiations, however, and any new agreement will depend on Olise’s wishes as well as the club’s ability to find terms that work for both sides.
Eberl’s comments before Bayern’s Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg marked a more direct statement than he has previously made about a possible extension. Speaking to DAZN, he said the club would like to continue working with Olise “for a long time” and would ideally secure a deal that keeps him in Munich beyond 2029.
“Our wish has been clearly stated,” Eberl said, describing the winger as a “world-class player who is still not at the end” of his development. The message is significant: Bayern are not simply relying on the length of Olise’s existing contract. They want to build a longer-term commitment around one of their most influential attacking players.
What Bayern have said about Olise’s future
Until recently, Bayern officials had focused on the security provided by Olise’s current deal, which runs through 2029. In September, Eberl said the club hoped to understand by next summer whether the player was leaning towards an extension. His latest remarks suggest Bayern are prepared to state their ambition more openly, even though the process has not yet advanced to formal talks.
Eberl was careful to distinguish the club’s intention from the state of negotiations. He said there had been no discussions with Olise about a new contract so far, adding that much of the recent speculation had not come from conversations with Bayern. The club’s position, he explained, is clear, but there is another party involved: the player himself.
That distinction matters in a transfer market where reports about salary demands, contract clauses and rival interest can quickly be treated as confirmed developments. For now, Bayern have expressed their preference, but there is no agreement to announce. Olise’s decision will ultimately shape whether the club can turn its ambition into a new deal.
Reported salary and contract plans
Reports have offered an early glimpse of how Bayern might try to make a longer stay attractive. Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that a Ballon d’Or-related bonus clause could be included in a proposed contract. Such a provision would reward Olise if he wins football’s most prestigious individual award, aligning part of his compensation with his potential to reach the sport’s highest level.
Sky has reported that Bayern could consider a contract running until 2032, with a possible annual salary of around €25 million. If accurate, that figure would place Olise among the club’s highest-paid players, alongside stars such as Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala. His current annual salary has been reported at approximately €14 million.
These figures remain media reports rather than confirmed terms. Still, they underline the scale of the decision Bayern may face. A long contract and a major pay increase would reflect Olise’s status in the squad, while also helping the club protect the value of a player who is attracting attention across Europe. For Bayern, the challenge is to reward his contribution without compromising the club’s wider wage structure.
Could a release clause become a sticking point?
One reported condition could prove especially important: a release clause. People close to Olise are said to believe he would want an exit provision included in any extension. That would give him a defined route to leave in the future if a suitable offer arrived, while providing Bayern with a degree of control over the timing and value of a potential departure.
Olise previously had a release clause at Crystal Palace, and Bayern used it to sign him in 2024 for a reported €53 million. His current Bayern contract does not include such a clause. Whether the club would accept one in a new agreement is uncertain. Bayern may prefer to retain full control, while Olise’s camp could view a release mechanism as an important safeguard in a long-term deal.
This issue could become central to negotiations. A contract through 2032 would offer Bayern considerable security, but a carefully structured clause might make that commitment more appealing to the player. The details—such as the clause’s value, timing and eligible clubs—would determine whether both sides could reach a compromise.
Real Madrid links and Bayern’s contract priorities
Olise has been linked with Real Madrid, with reports suggesting the Spanish club has monitored his progress. However, recent coverage has also claimed that Madrid expects him to remain at Bayern. There is no confirmed offer or formal move, and Bayern’s public stance indicates that the German club intends to resist any attempt to unsettle a player they see as central to their future plans.
Olise’s performances have helped explain the attention. His creativity, close control and ability to operate across the attacking line make him a valuable option in modern football. At 24, he also has room to develop further, a point reflected in Eberl’s description of him as a player who has not yet reached his ceiling.
Any contract discussions may not begin immediately. Bayern are currently prioritising talks with Kane, whose contract expires at the end of the season. The England captain has indicated that an agreement could be close, saying he feels comfortable at the club and expects an announcement before long. Resolving Kane’s situation first could allow Bayern to focus more fully on Olise’s future.
Prediction: Bayern will push to keep Olise
The most reasonable prediction is that Bayern will make a serious attempt to extend Olise’s contract, but the outcome will depend on the balance between salary, length and flexibility. Eberl’s comments show that the club wants to act before the player’s deal enters its final years. At the same time, the absence of formal talks means it is too early to assume an extension is guaranteed.
If Bayern can offer a competitive package and find common ground over a release clause, Olise may have strong reasons to stay: he is playing for a leading European club, has a prominent role and is still developing within a team built to compete for major trophies. For now, the key takeaway is clear: Bayern want a long-term future with Olise, but the next step must come through direct negotiations with the player and his representatives.
