The Chairman of PCB, Zaka Ashraf, resigned from chairmanship after chairing a managing committee meeting in Lahore on Friday. The announcement came as a major blow to Pakistan’s cricket as Ashraf has taken over the PCB Chief role from Najam Sethi in 2023. And now Ashraf’s resignation is such a short duration has shocked the entire cricket fraternity.
What is the reason behind Zaka Ashraf’s Resignation?

One major factor behind Ashraf’s resignation is his educational qualification as reports suggest he is not a graduate. Additionally, his tenure will end in February which led to the speculations that he has anticipated the inevitable & chose to step down.
Before stepping down from the post of Chairman, Ashraf listed his achievements including the visit of the BCCI team to Pakistan to witness a fixture of Asia Cup 2023. BCCUI’s visit during the Asia Cup is looked upon as a significant accomplishment of Zaka Ashraf during his tenure.

Ashraf took over the chairmanship in July 29023 & was given a three-month extension in November 2023 to form a board of governors & organize an election for a new PCB Chairman. However, he failed to meet this deadline leading to increased pressure & scrutiny.

During Ashraf’s tenure Pakistan Cricket team faced below-par performances. The team failed to advance beyond the group stage in the World Cup 2023 & couldn’t progress ahead of the Super Four in the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. The resignation comes on the team’s recent struggles, including a 3-0 Test whitewash against Australia and a 0-4 deficit in the ongoing T20 series against New Zealand.
