Young, prolific & enthusiastic Yashasvi Jaiswal unlocked the second double century of his Test career on the third day of the Rajkot Test. Jaiswal resumed India’s innings on day three & went on to register his second double-century. He returned to the pitch after Gill got dismissed on Day 4 & reached his second double ton of Test career. En route to his second double century, Jaiswal reached the record of hitting a maximum number of sixes in a Test innings equalling Wasin Akram’s record.
Pakistan’s Wasim Akram also holds the record of hitting maximum sixes with 12 sixes in a Test match against Zimbabwe in the year 1996. Against England, Jaiswal reached the feat. Also, Jaiswal is the first batsman in the history of Test to hit 20 or an equal number of sixes in a single Test series & a first in the 147-year history of Test cricket.
Jaiswal’s six-hitting spree also helped India to reach the world record with India becoming the only team to hit maximum sixes in a series. With 48 sixes already to their name, India bettered their record, having hit 47 sixes against South Africa in 2019. England (43) and Australia (40) were the teams placed at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in the list.
India leads the list of teams with the highest number of sixes in a single fixture
When it comes to the record of hitting the most sixes in a single fixture by an India, Rohit’s men lead the list by scoring 28 sixes in the Rajkot Test. Previously they scored a maximum number of sixes against South Africa by smashing 27 sixes at Vizag Test in 2019. In their second innings, India smashed 18 sixes which is also a record for a team.
However, Jaiswal who smashed 14 fours & 12 sixes, retired hurt on 104 and returned on Day 3 to smash 214 runs along with Sarfaraz with India declaring a massive lead of 556 runs. For England, Rehan conceded 108 runs for his one wicket in 25 overs while Joe Root (1-111) & Tom Hartley (1-78) were the other wicket takers in the list.
