Wycombe vs West Ham U21: Preview
Wycombe form analysis
The Wanderers have produced inconsistent League One results recently. They started by drawing 1-1 at home against Port Vale on December 23rd; Kevin Sadlier put Wycombe ahead before James Wilson grabbed a 90th minute equalizer for Vale. Wycombe then failed to build momentum from that as they lost 1-0 away to Exeter on Boxing Day courtesy of Sam Cox’s second half strike. Four days later, Wycombe then ground out a goalless away draw with Leyton Orient before rounding off 2023 with a dramatic 3-2 home win over Bristol Rovers on New Year’s Day; two goals from Sam Vokes ultimately earned the vital win despite a tense finish after Rovers twice pulled goals back through Connor Taylor strikes.
However, the New Year did not herald an upturn in form as on January 6th Wycombe had to settle for a 1-1 away draw at Burton; Scott Kashket’s opener for Burton was cancelled out by Sam Vokes before both teams had chances to win it late on. Overall, attacking quality earned Wycombe results but they lacked control in games, an issue they must address.
West Ham U21 form analysis
West Ham United U21s have been in excellent goal scoring form recently. They fought back from behind twice in a 2-2 away draw at Manchester City U21s on September 30th thanks to strikes from Callum Marshall and Gerrard Kodua. They built on this by hammering Middlesbrough U21s 5-0 at home on October 27th courtesy of a Callum Marshall hat trick alongside goals from Gideon Earthy and Layth Orford.
West Ham continued this scintillating form by incredibly winning 4-0 away at Liverpool U21s on November 4th through another Marshall brace and goals from Gerrard Kodua and Gideon Earthy. Most recently on December 19th they hit five again in a 5-1 demolition of Crystal Palace U21s with goals from Kevin Casey, Marshall, Earthy, Carlton Coventry and Gerrard Kodua powering them to another emphatic win. Overall, West Ham U21s have posed a huge creative threat lately while also staying solid at the back, making them one of the PL2’s in-form teams currently.
