In the wrestling industry, usually when a wrestler fights in the ring, their costume is singlets, trunks or pants. However, one superstar who has defied all norms by competing in a jeans shorts for most of his career is John Cena. Now the 16-time WWE champion has finally revealed why he chose jeans shorts as his wrestling outfit.
Cena revealed why he chose denim shorts
The WWE Universe knows very well about the Jean shorts that Cena likes to wrestle in. It is a unique look and will always remain so because of how iconic it is with the WWE legend. The styling is pretty interesting and comforting, as jeans are not associated with combat or any kind of sport. However, Cena recently revealed in an interview with WSJ Magazine why he chose to dress this way in the ring and how he has made it work for him.
Cena stated that the reason he wears shorts is because denim is very durable, as long as he gets a good fit, it doesn’t tear too much. He doesn’t want any of the family that comes to WWE events to see his ugly bit. All he needs to do is find something that fits around the butt and thighs, because he always wears drawstring belts. He further revealed that belt buckles can really mess it up. “I’ve learned this through failure. It can stab you, it can scratch you and it can cause damage to opponents and referees. This is not a good piece of equipment,” said Cena.
John Cena is retiring from WWE
The WWE Universe is surely going to miss these jeans shorts because, after the end of 2025, they will disappear forever. At this year’s Money in the Bank, Cena revealed that he would be going on his final tour as a WWE superstar in 2025. Starting next year, Cena will wrestle at some major PLEs before retiring at the end of 2025.
The events that are confirmed for Cena to appear are the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania. This will be his last time wrestling at all of those premium live events, with Cena’s final match scheduled to take place later next year.
