WWE’s one of the best premium live events, SummerSlam, is going to be a two-night event starting in 2026. The company made this announcement on Thursday that the biggest party of the summer is coming to Minneapolis, Minnesota and will take place on August 1 and August 2. Earlier this year, WWE fans got to see two nights of WrestleMania 40 as well. Witnessing epic matches on both nights at the grandest stage gave a great entertainment dose to the WWE universe. In 2026, WWE, in partnership with Minnesota Sports & Events, will host WWE SummerSlam over two nights at US Bank Stadium.
The 2026 edition of SummerSlam will be the first premium live event to be held in Minneapolis since TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs in 2019 and will mark the first time the company will host a stadium event in the city. Additionally, WWE and Minnesota Sports & Events will host fan and community events in the days leading up to and following the Summer Slam.
The two-day event will attract thousands of people
This announcement of WWE airing the show over two nights is quite exciting. Till now, only WrestleMania has been organized for two nights, with plenty of matches and celebrities being a part of the event. Big premium live events attract numerous people to the city where the event is held and bring huge amounts of revenue to the area. Cities have been advocating for WWE and bidding for the opportunity to host these kinds of events. WWE is trying to do the same with SummerSlam, which is arguably the company’s second-most popular and biggest premium event.
Why there is a need for a two-day event
A few people might argue that the event doesn’t need two nights, but there are many reasons for WWE to make this decision. The more match cards were stacked in WrestleMania, the longer the show became. Extending it to two nights meant not asking the audience to sit through five hours. SummerSlam would have gone through essentially the same issues. Secondly, the cities are paying WWE to bring their product to the area. It doesn’t cost the promotion much in terms of arena costs to hold a two-night show. There is a possibility that in the coming years, fans might get to see Royal Rumble follow this as well.
