WrestleMania XL saw the WWE World Heavyweight Championship change owners three times. Drew McIntyre dethroned Seth Rollins for the championship and then Damian Priest cashed in his Money In the bank, making McIntyre’s happiness short lived. Drew was the champion for only five minutes and 46 seconds. So now the Heavyweight belt is currently in the camp of Judgement Day. Damian’s next opponent is scheduled to be Jey Uso, who won the fatal four-way match on April 8, 2024, at RAW to get a shot at the World title. Seth “Freakin” Rollins is the longest reigning champion in the history of the world Title. He was the champion for 316 days. This year still has a long way to go, which means we can see many new champions in the following months. In this article, we will have a look at those wrestlers who might surprise the WWE Universe by becoming the World Heavyweight Champions in 2024.
1) Jey Uso
Jey Uso is currently the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship after defeating Bronson Reed, Ricochet and Drew McIntyre in a Fatal Four-Way match in the latest episode of RAW. It would be shocking if “The Archer of Infamy” would lose his title this early to Jey Uso. However, strange things are part of WWE and Jey has proven his abilities as a single wrestler during his encounters with his cousin Roman Reigns. He is also coming off a big win against his twin brother, Jimmy Uso.
It is possible that WWE Superstars like Jimmy Uso, Drew McIntyre, or Solo Sikoa interfere during the title match. It doesn’t seem like Jey will dethrone Priest off the Heavyweight title this early, but anything can go down.
2) R-Truth
R-Truth won the RAW Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania after winning the Six-Pack Ladder Match on Night One. However, it still seems that his business with The Judgement Day is not over. The Judgement Day will definitely try to win back their tag team titles from R-Truth and The Miz, as said by Finn Balor on the episode of RAW. R-Truth is currently one of the most entertaining superstars in the company. The 52-year-old is still in great shape and full of energy, which can be seen whenever he steps inside the ring. He is on top of the game when it comes to working with live crowds and on the microphone. R-Truth can find his way to the World Heavyweight Title through Money In The Bank.
There are many other ways, too, in which he can get his shot at the title. Truth can annoy Damian Priest to the extent that he himself gives him the title shot. WWE fans will definitely want to see Truth and Priest face each other. The rivalry between them can lead to various non-title and title matches as well.
3) Logan Paul
The current United States Champion, Logan Paul, is a popular figure on social media as well as in WWE. He is great at entertaining both in the ring and on the microphone. “The Maverick” has shown amazing performances against various top superstars in the company. Most recently, he retained his United States title at WrestleMania XL in the triple threat match against Randy Orton and Kevin Owens.
Once his reign as the United States champion is over, he can go for the world title and have another entertaining stint. Given his fan following, it is easy to guess that he will be the world champion one day and that day can come earlier than expected. WWE is full of surprises and they can shock the fans with a title win for Logan this year.
4) Finn Balor
If you are a new WWE fan or don’t remember, let us tell you that Finn Balor was the first ever WWE Universal Champion eight years ago, which was the top-most male title in RAW at the time. Since then, he has been slipping from mid-card to the main event stage. Balor’s time at the top was short-lived due to injury, which made him the shortest reigning Universal Champion of all time, a reign that lasted only one day.
There is a possibility that “The Demon” becomes jealous of Damian, which leads to a rift between their faction that eventually leads to both Balor and “The Archer of Infamy” being hungry to beat each other. It has been speculated for a long time that Damian Priest will be removed from The Judgement Day and turned into “Babyface.”
5) CM Punk
The “Cookie Master” has returned to the Stanford-based promotion after a long time. He has a great history of iconic matches in WWE that still lives on in the minds of fans. However, the 40-year-old has seemingly become injury-prone. Shortly after his return to WWE after almost a decade, CM Punk injured himself. He tore his right tricep during the Men’s Royal Rumble match, which spoiled his potential plans for WrestleMania 40. However, there is still a possibility that WWE fans could see him become the World Heavyweight Champion whenever he returns to the ring this year. The Chicago native’s stardom clearly shows that it is possible for him to become the world champion even if he is injury-prone. It is also possible that CM Punk’s title win will come at WrestleMania 41 in 2025.
