WWE legend John Cena recently revealed how he met his wife Shay Shariatzadeh. John Cena was at a bar in British Columbia, Canada, watching Super Bowl LIII between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots. The match was held on February 3, 2019, and that was the day Cena met the love of his life. The 16-time champion recently appeared on The Howard Stern Show and shared his and Shay’s love story.
Cena began dating Shay shortly after their first meeting
John Cena admitted that he wasn’t looking for a serious relationship at that time but fell in love. He was relaxing in his Vancouver apartment when a friend invited him to watch the Super Bowl at the bar, where the first meeting between him and Shariatzadeh happened. Once Cena was in the bar, he noticed five people coming in, including Shay. Cena said that she made him take a look, and he was not even focusing on the game at the time.
Shay was with the group of her friends and Cena didn’t have the courage to approach her and introduce himself. Luckily, he was recognized by one of Shay’s friends and wanted to take a picture with him. John took the picture with Shay’s friend and they eventually took a fan photo that is still hung on the walls of their house to this day.
Describing their first conversation, John stated that he asked for her number and she gave it. He didn’t wait for the two days as he left the restaurant and on the way home, texted her. “It was nice to meet you, you are beautiful. I’d like to get to know you more,” wrote Cena in the text. Shay asked to meet him on the weekend, to which he said yes.
The couple has been married for nearly four years now
Cena and Shay began dating shortly after their first meeting at the Vancouver bar. Although the Cenation leader was considering proposing to her within three months, he took a little more time to finally ask for the wedding. The pair married on October 12, 2020, in a private ceremony in Tampa, Florida. They have been happily married now for nearly four years.
Before dating Shay, Cena was in a relationship with WWE superstar Nikki Bella since 2012. John proposed to Nikki in 2017 at WrestleMania 33 and they were scheduled to marry on May 5, 2018. However, they called off the seven-year relationship in April 2018.
