WWE seems to be building a match between Drew McIntyre and Wade Barrett. On Monday night Raw, The Scottish Warrior gave one of his best friends a harsh warning, saying that the next time he gets in the way of himself and CM Punk, he won’t be disheartened, he’ll be angry and do something about it. This caught Barrett’s attention, and while the two were stopped by Adam Pearce, the seeds were planted for a future confrontation.
Barrett’s dream match is to face McIntyre
Interestingly, in July, Barrett told AceOdds that if he could have one match for the rest of his days on this planet, it would definitely be him against Drew McIntyre at the Wembley Stadium.
“If they dangle that match in front of me at any point, then yeah, absolutely. I’m coming back and I’m having that match sold out at Wembley Stadium. But that is a bit of a pipe dream,” said Barrett.
WWE was in London recently as WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, and WWE President Nick Khan met with London Mayor Sadiq Khan to discuss hosting a future WrestleMania in that city. If the next WrestleMania does happen in Wembley, it will potentially give Barrett the opportunity to fight his dream match. WWE teased the idea of such a match on its social media feeds on Tuesday, a day after McIntyre and Barrett came face to face.
WWE Universe wants to see this potential matchup
Barrett sees this as a potential dream match, so the build-up to it will be tremendous. However, if WWE plans to go this route, it will be a long time to wait for these two to face off. The WWE Universe was excited when Barrett stood up to his friend and indicated that he wasn’t thinking about being intimidated. Despite not being an active competitor in WWE, the idea that he could return to the ring against his friend makes the idea even more interesting, especially considering his past association to Punk and The Nexus.

Fans also reacted on social media, hoping WWE could set this up much earlier than a potential future event in London, England. Many people want to see “Bad News Barrett” fight at next year’s WrestleMania. But first WWE needs to finish the storyline between McIntyre and Punk so that afterwards they can focus on The Scottish Warrior and Barrett. McIntyre is set to face CM Punk at Bad Blood in a Hell in a Cell, where we might see Barrett playing some role and creating tension.
