It has been six months since Cody Rhodes became the Undisputed WWE Champion and during this time, he primarily feuded with AJ Style and The Bloodline. Most recently, he defended his title against Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin. Despite being one of WWE’s most popular stars this year, Rhodes topping the PWI 500 and performing well in his PLE matches, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray believes that Rhodes’ title reign is a little bit underwhelming.
Bully about Rhodes’ underwhelming title reign
Recently, during his appearance on “Busted Open Radio,” Bully explained that “The American Nightmare” has no “mega heel” to go up against and used The Rock as an example of the right threat to his reign. “He hasn’t had a heel like The Rock. Now I know we are asking for a lot, it is hard to come out of an angle that main-evented WrestleMania with a guy portraying the heel like The Rock was and then find someone who is on the same level as The Rock,” said Ray. He further stated that Cody is dealing with challengers who are heels, but nobody is posing a threat like The Final Boss.
Although Bully praised Cody Rhodes for his work outside the ring and his ability to connect with the WWE Universe, he still feels that Cody’s title reign has been a bit disappointing due to not being challenged by a super heel over the past six months. WWE Hall of Famer further stated that he loves Cody answering people on social media and showing up at people’s weddings, but the only missing factor is a mega heel.
WWE Hall of Famer agrees about the lack of heels
Bully mentioned WWE Hall of Famer JBL as an example of a heel that “The American Nightmare” needs to go against, considering the type of villain JBL was during his career. Bully thinks he would be on the same level as The Rock when it comes to portraying a character that could pose a threat to his championship. He also mentioned how he and JBL agreed that there are currently not enough super heels in the wrestling world.
