WWE has finally officially announced that Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will face the Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam. The company confirmed the news by tweeting the graphical image of the matchup and noting that after weeks of animosity between Rhodes and the group, the match is now set.
Sikoa vs Cody is now official
The matchup was expected, and if you have been following WWE programming, particularly SmackDown, over the past few weeks, you would have seen it coming. Sikoa claimed that he was going after Cody for the title and then “The American Nightmare” attempted to take on the entire group on his own on Friday night. However, he was unsuccessful, as The Bloodline left him and Randy Orton lying on the ground. Kevin Owens is currently dealing with a family loss. Orton is potentially out, so Cody is left alone and things are not in his favor right now.
No Stipulations have been named for the match yet
For now, no stipulations have been given for this match, so it could be a simple one-on-one. However, if the contest has a no-disqualification, then it opens up the possibility of The Bloodline working as a unit and the potential return of Roman Reigns. “The Tribal Chief” is expected to return at or just before the “biggest party of the summer” and possibly as a babyface to confront Solo Sikoa, who has claimed to take the title of Tribal chief in Reigns’ absence.
Fans quickly reacted to the announcement of the matchup and several of them suggested that this could be the last time Cody has anything to do with the family faction for a while. Some also think that the storyline has ended on its own and if Roman comes back, the storyline will focus on Sikoa vs. Reigns, leading to a potential family feud. The feud won’t require a title, so Rhodes is likely to retain the championship.
There is also speculation that Cody will face Orton next, with “The Viper” eyeing his title. Orton did tell “The American Nightmare” that he’ll always have his back, but given Randy’s history in WWE, he hasn’t always been the most reliable and trustworthy superstar.
