Wolves form analysis
Wolverhampton’s recent Premier League matches demonstrate a talented team still finding their way under new manager Gary O’Neil. They started impressively despite the loss against Liverpool 3-1 at home thanks to Hwang’s early goal before a late collapse. A 1-1 away draw at Luton followed as Neto scored before Morris’ penalty levelled it. Wolves then produced a major upset by defeating Man City 2-1 courtesy of a Dias own goal and Hwang’s winner. However, they were unable to build momentum, drawing 1-1 at home against Aston Villa after Hwang’s opener was cancelled out by Torres. Most recently, Wolves returned to winning ways with a tight 1-2 victory away at Bournemouth sealed by late strikes from Cunha and Kalajdzic.
Overall, Wolves have shown they can compete with and trouble the top teams when at their best. Hwang has been excellent, bagging 4 goals, while new signings like Cunha have also impressed. But O’Neil is still working to implement his ideas fully and find the right balance. If he can get Wolves playing more consistent, progressive football, they have the tools to push towards midtable. However, finding greater fluency and momentum remains a work in progress.
Newcastle United form analysis
Newcastle United’s recent Premier League matches highlight a team rapidly establishing themselves as top four contenders under Eddie Howe. They started this period by grinding out a 1-0 home win over Brentford thanks to Wilson’s penalty. This was followed up by a club record 8-0 demolition of Sheffield United, putting together a ruthless attacking display. Newcastle maintained momentum with a solid 2-0 home victory against Burnley thanks to goals from Almiron and Isak. They then came from behind to draw 2-2 away at West Ham, with Isak netting twice to maintain his excellent form. Most recently, Newcastle handed Crystal Palace a heavy 4-0 home loss, thanks to strikes from Murphy, Gordon, Longstaff and Wilson.
Overall, Newcastle have looked extremely impressive, showcasing Howe’s excellent coaching and recruitment. Isak and Almiron have added a real cutting edge in attack, while Pope and Botman have shored up the backline. Howe seems to have crafted an excellent blend of steel, work rate and attacking flair. If Newcastle can sustain this level, another push for Champions League qualification could be on the cards.
