Wolfsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Preview
Wolfsburg form analysis
Die Weißgrünen made a winning start by beating Heidenheim 2-0 at home in the cup, thanks to a Wind brace. Wind was on target again as Wolfsburg won 2-1 away at Cologne, netting the winner after equalizing. However, attacking struggles surfaced in a 1-3 home loss to Hoffenheim, with only Tomas on target.
Wolfsburg did bounce back by edging past Union Berlin 2-1 at home, with goals from Wind and Maehle. Most recently though, they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Dortmund after failing to create much.
Overall, it’s been an inconsistent start under new manager Niko Kovac as Wolfsburg try to improve on last season’s struggles. Wind has impressed upfront, netting 3 goals already. But Wolfsburg have lacked attacking spark at times, highlighted in the losses to Hoffenheim and Dortmund.
If they are more productive going forward, their results should improve. But finding greater creativity and goal threat from midfield is crucial, with midfielders yet to score this term. Kovac has made Wolfsburg harder to beat though, which gives them a platform to build on.
Eintracht Frankfurt form analysis
Frankfurt began with a narrow 1-0 home win over Darmstadt courtesy of a Kolo Muani goal. They followed that up with a 1-1 away draw against Mainz, needing a last minute equalizer from sub Marmoush to claim a point.
Frankfurt then drew at home again, 1-1 against Cologne after going behind to a Kainz penalty before Nkounkou leveled late on. Most recently, they earned another 1-1 draw away at Bochum, with new signing Dina Ebimbe putting them ahead before Stoger’s penalty secured a point for Bochum.
The inability to see out wins when ahead has also been a concern. If they can add more attacking spark to turn draws into wins, a top 4 push could be on the cards again this season.
