Virat Kohli: Can He Lead India to Historic Test Series Victory in South Africa?
The upcoming Test series between South Africa and India promises to be a spectacle, with all eyes glued to Virat Kohli’s performance. Former Proteas legend Jacques Kallis has declared that the form of Virat Kohli will be crucial if India aims to make history by winning its first-ever Test series on South African soil.
Kohli boasts an impressive Test record in South Africa, averaging a staggering 56.18 with three centuries and four fifties across 14 matches. His recent form, including the Player of the Tournament performance at the ODI World Cup, further fuels expectations.
Kallis believes Kohli’s experience and knowledge will be invaluable for the young Indian team. He stated, “He’s a massive player, no matter where it is. Having played here quite a bit and had a fair amount of success, he’ll be able to pass that knowledge on to the other guys.”
However, Kallis warns against complacency. He acknowledges South Africa’s home-ground advantage, stating, “This is a good Indian team but South Africa are tough to beat in South Africa.” He predicts a closely fought series where small moments will decide the outcome.
Talking about the venues of the pitch, Kallis remarked, “Centurion will probably suit South Africa and Newlands will probably suit India.”
“It will be a good series and it will come down to one or two sessions that one team might play better than the other. It will be a closely-fought contest.”
India’s quest to conquer South Africa has been elusive, falling short in eight previous attempts. In 2021-22, despite entering the series as world No. 1, they suffered a 2-1 defeat.
This time around, with Kohli under the spotlight and South Africa determined to defend their home turf, the stage is set for a dramatic encounter.
The experience of a Virat Kohli could be crucial for India especially because he is in the twilight phase of his career and he will definitely like to take off a major Box with an incredible and historic win in South Africa against South Africa.
Before the test series, there is three match T20I series followed by 3 match test series. A different Indian team will be playing the white ball series with some young faces taking up the centre of the team.
