4. India has been successful on the international stage
Despite spending several years at the start of its cricketing journey as something of a minnow, India has now firmly established itself as one of the great cricketing nations of the world and is one of the most successful as well. It has given the world of cricket some of its greatest-ever players, with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Viral Kohli, Anil Kumble, and many more featuring at the top of run-scoring and wicket-taking charts.
India’s first major success came in the form of a famous World Cup win in 1983, with the Kapil Dev-led side becoming only the second nation after the dominant West Indies to lift the coveted trophy. Success in various series followed as India grew from strength to strength, eventually lifting the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007, following that up with their second ODI World Cup title in 2011, both under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
