Who Will Be Delhi Capitals Captain For IPL 2024? This has been a question since last year after Delhi Capitals star skipper Rishabh Pant met a car accident. As this question has been taking a round on social media, there has been positive news has come out from the Delhi Capitals camp.
The Delhi Capitals management has confirmed that Rishabh Pant will not be playing in the IPL 2024 but also lead the side. The southpaw suffered a fatal car accident in December last year and hasn’t played a single game, since.
Pant missed all the important series played in the year 2023, including Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023 due to the injury. He is, currently, undergoing his rehabilitation at NCA.
The wicket-keeper batter actively updates his fans about his progress on his social media accounts and it is understood that he will be making his potential comeback in the Indian Premier League 2024.
Having said that, it’s not confirmed whether he will play as a wicketkeeper or purely as a batter. The Board of Control for Cricket in India will monitor Pant’s progress and will decide on the same. If not as a wicket-keeper, Pant should be seen on the field leading the side.
Pant Likely To Be Delhi Capitals Captain in IPL 2024
Rishabh was actively involved in the team’s strategy, player retention and plans for the upcoming action, which indicates his potential comeback. For the unversed, Pant suffered a brutal accident in December last year, where all three ligaments in his right knee were damaged. He underwent surgery and rigorous rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get back into shape.
In his absence, David Warner led the side last year. However, Delhi Capitals endured a poor outing as they finished second-last with only 5 wins and 9 defeats in 14 matches. Pant’s return should be a massive boost to their ambitions for the 2024 season.
Delhi Capitals Have retained a youth-oriented Team
Ahead of the 2024 IPL auction, Delhi Capitals have released several players, namely Rilee Rossouw, Chetan Sakariya, Rovman Powell, Manish Pandey, Phil Salt, Mustafizur Rahman, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ripal Patel, Sarfaraz Khan, Aman Khan, and Priyam Garg.
Prithvi Shaw, who failed to live up to the expectations last season, has still been retained, while prominent names such as David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje Kuldeep Yadav etc. will continue to be part of the team.
They have a salary purse of 28.95 crores, going into the auction. They have a lot of holes to plug and would be one of the busiest teams at the auction.
