Since franchise sports leagues began in India sixteen years ago with the Indian Premier League, celebrities have been the primary buyers of sports franchises. Whether it’s Abhishek Bachchan in the Pro Kabaddi League or Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, or Shilpa Shetty in the Indian Premier League, actors have continually invested in these multimillion-dollar teams. There is one actor who owns the most sports teams in India.
But there is one name that is connected to four teams in different sports—not just one or two. The majority of sports teams are owned by a South star. Telugu superstar Nagarjuna is among the wealthiest actors in India. He rose to the top by winning the Bigg Boss Telugu competition, starring in hit films, and making wise business decisions.
Among these options is placing wagers on various sports teams. In 2012, Nagarjuna partnered with cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni to acquire the Mahi Racing Team India, a superbike racing platform that competes in the FIM Supersport World Championship.
Nagarjuna’s sports teams in India:
The following year, Nagarjuna became a co-owner of the Indian Badminton League’s Mumbai Masters team. Here, he shared ownership with the renowned Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. The actor also owns shares in the Telugu Warriors, an exhibition cricket team comprised of Indian actors in the Celebrity Cricket League.
The world’s most popular sport, football, was added to Nagarjuna’s list of sports in 2017. Together with Sachin Tendulkar, he and fellow Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi led a group that acquired the Kerala Blasters team in the Indian Super League.
Shah Rukh Khan is one of the most well-known owners of Indian cricket teams. To be fair, the actor owns four teams that are part of the same franchise in the same sport. Teams from his Knight Riders franchise, based in Los Angeles, Trinidad, Kolkata, and Cape Town, play in regional Twenty20 leagues. In addition, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty share ownership of the Indian Premier League’s Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, respectively.
The Mumbai City ISL team is partially owned by Ranbir Kapoor, and one of Abhishek Bachchan’s PKL teams is the Jaipur Pink Panthers. A few other actors recently bought teams in the upcoming Indian Street Premier League.
Acting career:
On the acting part, on May 24, 1986, he debuted in his first film, Vikram, which was a remake of the Hindi film Hero, starring Jackie Shroff.
