Boxing Champ Meets Monster: Mike Tyson Interviewed by Unaware Serial Killer
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson had a chilling encounter years ago, unknowingly meeting with Dale Hausner, a serial killer who, along with his accomplice Samuel Dieteman, terrorized Phoenix, Arizona.
Hausner, who maintained a seemingly normal life as a janitor and sports writer, managed to secure an interview with Tyson while posing as a journalist. The two met at Tyson’s gym, and the interview reportedly went smoothly.
However, just days later, the facade crumbled. Police arrived at the gym, informing Tyson of the horrifying truth – Hausner and Dieteman were responsible for a string of brutal murders that had plagued the city.
The unsuspecting Tyson described Hausner as “a little tiny white guy… a nice guy.” This unsuspected demeanor highlights the chilling nature of the case. Hausner, along with Dieteman, embarked on a killing spree between May 2005 and August 2006.
While speaking on a podcast, Mike Tyson recalled the encounter and said, “I’m doing an interview with this guy and I’m talking, a little scared. He got very little hands. You know, those little white guys with small and little hands, and he’s nice. And some guys were picking on him.
And some guys were picking on him and I said, yo, chill out. Leave him alone. So I come over, I’m talking to him and stuff, and then he leaves. I do the interview, two or three days come by and Swat has the whole gym surrounding.
So I’m saying, what the hell did I do?
So they come in and they show a picture of me and this guy shaking hands. I’m saying, fuck this guy, probably have a lawsuit. I must have just got this guy nervous or something.
And he said, do you know this guy? And I said, well, listen, I was promoting a fight and I must have gotten a little animated and he may have gotten scared if anything happened.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to. And he snatched the paperback, the picture back and said, :Mister Tyson, he liked you. He didn’t like the 20 people he shot and the eight that he killed.’”
Mike Tyson was literally surprised to see the crime behind the most unafraid faces. Their targets were random – pedestrians and animals alike – and their crimes were fueled by methamphetamine use. In addition to the murders, they also committed arson, setting fire to multiple locations.
Hausner’s background offered no clues to the darkness lurking beneath the surface. He had no prior criminal record. This seemingly ordinary man, juggling janitorial duties with sports journalism and freelance photojournalism, hid a monstrous secret.
Police later revealed Hausner’s chilling confession, detailing his involvement in shootings, arson, stabbings, muggings, and even acts of random violence.
