West Ham vs Nottingham Forest: Preview
West Ham form analysis
The Londoner’s recent run of games has showcased a leaky defense undermining their dangerous attack. They started with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Sheffield United thanks to goals from Bowen and Soucek. However, problems at the back surfaced in the next game despite drawing 2-2 with Newcastle, twice pegged back by Isak after going ahead through Soucek. This continued in a heavy 1-4 away loss at Villa, with Bowen’s goal scant consolation after more poor defending.
There was an improved defensive performance in the next match, limiting Everton’s attack in a narrow 0-1 home loss decided by Calvert-Lewin’s clinical strike. But familiar issues remained in their latest game, losing a six goal thriller 3-2 at home to Brentford, with Bowen’s goal one of few positives after more sloppy defending. Overall, West Ham still boast plenty of attacking threat Bowen but their defensive frailties continue to undermine their good work going forward.
Nottingham Forest form analysis
Forest’s return to the Premier League has seen them remain competitive but with clear limitations. They started by battling back to draw 1-1 at home with Brentford, equalizing through Dominguez after going behind. There was an improved defensive performance next game, holding Palace 0-0 away from home and unlucky not to nick the points. However, problems surfaced in their next match, surrendering a two goal lead at home to draw 2-2 with Luton after sloppy defending.
Things got worse next game with a 0-3 home thrashing by Liverpool. Simply unable to cope with the visitor’s ruthless attack. Most recently they bounced back with an impressive 2-0 home win over Villa. Defending resolutely after going ahead early and executing the perfect smash and grab. Overall, Forest have remained organized defensively but lacked attacking flair. Adding goals will be crucial if their stubbornness is to translate into enough points to avoid relegation this season.
