West Ham vs Newcastle: Preview
West Ham form analysis
Hammers began with an impressive 3-1 away win at Brighton, clinical in attack through goals from Ward-Prowse, Bowen and Antonio. They followed that up by defeating Luton 2-1 on the road behind goals from Bowen and Zouma. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 1-3 home loss to Man City, caught out on the break despite Ward-Prowse putting them ahead.
West Ham suffered another defeat away at Liverpool, going behind early before Bowen briefly equalized in a 1-3 loss. Most recently though, they returned to winning ways by comfortably dispatching Sheffield United 2-0 at home, thanks to goals from Bowen and Soucek.
Overall, West Ham’s start has been uneven as David Moyes adjusts to multiple new additions. When Ward-Prowse was in charge, they occasionally displayed their ability to attack. However, there have been defensive mistakes, resulting in soft goals against City and Liverpool. West Ham has the talent to have another successful season if Moyes succeeds in securing them up at the back. But improving concentration and cutting out individual errors is crucial, especially against the league’s elite sides.
Newcastle form analysis
Newcastle had a creditable 1-2 home loss to Liverpool, taking the lead before a late Nunez double. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 1-3 defeat away at Brighton, with only Wilson’s late strike in response to Ferguson’s hat-trick. Newcastle did bounce back to beat Brentford 1-0 at home, grinding out the win thanks to a Wilson penalty.
Their best display came in an emphatic 0-8 thrashing of Sheffield United away, scoring eight on the road for the first time in their history. Most recently, Newcastle earned another excellent win, beating Burnley 2-0 at home courtesy of goals from Almiron and Isak.
Overall, Newcastle have competed well defensively but lacked attacking spark at times. Eddie Howe has been working to fix the issues at the back since the devastating defeat at Brighton exposed them. Future chance generation has been problematic due to an over reliance on Wilson and Isak. But the Sheffield United thrashing and Burnley win demonstrated Newcastle’s potential when everything clicks.
