The club delayed the announcement of Julen Lopetegui’s arrival to allow David Moyes to conclude the season without distractions.
Moyes, who helped stabilize the club during challenging times, leaves a solid foundation for Lopetegui to build upon. West Ham’s leadership expressed their gratitude to Moyes and highlighted the significance of this managerial transition.
In a statement released by the club, Julen Lopetegui shared his excitement about joining West Ham.
“I am very happy to be part of the future of this big Club,” he said.
“We will try to put our stamp on the Club. My ambition as a coach is always to be better and achieve more, to improve the players and the team, and to compete at the highest level.”
Lopetegui’s coaching journey has been notable, starting in the youth systems of Real Madrid and the Spanish national team.
His first senior role at Porto showcased his tactical acumen, although his tenure with Spain ended abruptly just before the 2018 World Cup due to his agreement to join Real Madrid.
Despite a brief and challenging stint at the Bernabeu, Lopetegui rebounded by leading Sevilla to a Europa League victory.
His recent spell at Wolves saw him guide the team to a respectable 13th place finish in the 2022-23 Premier League season.
West Ham’s Joint-Chairman David Sullivan welcomed Lopetegui with optimism.
“We are delighted to welcome Julen to the Club. We believe his appointment gives us a strong opportunity to build on our recent progress and move in a direction that aligns with our ambitions.
We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to shape a strategy for West Ham United’s future, and we look forward to seeing Julen’s coaching ability, experience, and personality make a positive impact.”
The transition in the coaching staff is significant, with familiar faces like Kevin Nolan departing to make way for Lopetegui’s new team.
This change marks a fresh chapter for the Hammers, aiming to leverage the solid platform built in recent years and strive for greater success.
West Ham’s supporters eagerly await the new season under Lopetegui’s guidance. His blend of experience, ambition, and tactical expertise promises to bring a renewed sense of excitement and potential to the London Stadium.
As the club looks forward to the challenges ahead, there is a palpable sense of anticipation and hope that Lopetegui will lead the Hammers to new heights, both domestically and in Europe.
