The former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland claims that the fight with Dricus Du Plessis is already booked. The situation at the top of the middleweight division has been quite unclear lately. Initially it seemed that a match against “Tarzan” would be an obvious option for Dricus Du Plessis, but things have changed quite a bit. With Khamzat Chimaev, Robert Whittaker and even now Alex Pereira getting involved, things are looking quite murky for Strickland.
Strickland took a dig at Dricus Du Plessis
But Strickland is confident of getting his rematch. Recently, in an interaction with a fan online, “Tarzan” was asked about his chances of fighting Du Plessis. Revealing that the fight has already been confirmed, Strickland took a dig at the current champion. “We got it booked and just waited on Dricus to decide when he is ready to lose,” said Strickland. Taking a dig at “Stillknocks” is nothing new for Strickland. Since losing the match at UFC 297, Strickland has been dismissing Du Plessis’ win. When the judges gave the decision in favor of Du Plessis, “Tarzan” expressed his disappointment. He immediately demanded a rematch, which the UFC did not accept and instead Du Plessis was given a title fight against Israel Adesanya. Dricus successfully defended his title against “The Last Stylebender,” and now Strickland is expected to be his next opponent.
However, the match between Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker has garnered a lot of buzz. While Chimaev is undefeated so far, Whittaker has come back into the title race with consecutive wins. This could perhaps make the Chimaev vs. Whittaker match a potential number one contender for the title. Unfortunately, the complications don’t stop there. In a surprising turn of events, the light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has expressed a desire to fight for the middleweight title. Just moments after Du Plessis scored a submission win over Adesanya, “Poatan” immediately called him out for a match. Initially everyone thought he was not being serious, but the Brazilian recently made it clear that he is serious about moving down the division and facing Du Plessis.

Pereira wants to capture the middleweight title
Given the claims made by Alex Pereira, many people think that it is not wise. Pereira is used to lifting a lot of weight in the light heavyweight division. If he wants to come down, Pereira will have to take a lot of risk just to make weight for the match. But with the amount of digs taken at Du Plessis, Pereira seems to be moving towards getting a fight. Now it will be up to Dana White whether he approves it or not.
