Watford vs Leicester City: Preview
Watford form analysis
After ending 2023 with an entertaining 3-3 home draw against Plymouth, Watford have endured mixed results so far at the start of 2024. Despite Kayembe and Kone putting Watford ahead three times against Plymouth, they couldn’t hold on for the win. Watford quickly bounced back though with an excellent 2-1 away victory over QPR thanks to a brace from Livermore cancelling out Dykes’ late strike.
However, they failed to build momentum as they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Bristol City in their next match, with Dele-Bashiru’s penalty cancelled out by Twine’s equalizer. Watford’s inconsistent form continued recently as they were involved in back-to-back goalless draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff. However, their flat attacking displays in these two games resulted in narrow defeats as they lost 0-1 at home to Cardiff, with Bowler netting the winner. Overall, it’s been an underwhelming start to 2024 so far for Watford, who have lacked cutting edge in too many games to mount a serious promotion push.
Leicester City form analysis
Leicester City made an outstanding start to 2024, thrashing Huddersfield 4-1 away from home on New Year’s Day thanks to goals from Cannon, Pereira and Mavididi. However, this sparkling form proved temporary as Coventry beat them 3-1 in their next match, overturning Dewsbury-Hall’s penalty despite a much changed Foxes lineup. Leicester quickly bounced back though with an away draw at Ipswich before recording an excellent 3-1 home win over Swansea. Efforts from Dewsbury-Hall, Mavididi and Akgün sealed the points.
Most recently, Leicester produced their best performance of the year so far, dismantling Stoke 5-0 away from home courtesy of a Daka brace, goals from McAteer and Vardy in a ruthless attacking masterclass. Overall, it’s been an excellent start to 2024 for the manager’s promotion chasing side, scoring 14 goals in their 5 games so far. With in-form stars like Daka and Mavididi leading the charge, Leicester have emerged as serious automatic promotion contenders again.
Watford vs Leicester City: Prediction
The hosts are winless in four Championship games at home and lost three of the previous four. Their chances look slim against a club with just a defeat in seven league games on the road.
An average of goals was seen in the Foxes previous five league matches. Almost the same average was seen in the last eight league matches at this venue.
