The Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is currently one of the most popular wrestling superstars and also the face of WWE. However, there was a time when Cody got so upset with the company that he announced his resignation on social media before parting ways with the WWE. This happened in 2016 when his Stardust gimmick was killing him from the inside and he couldn’t take it anymore. “The American Nightmare” recently revealed that he returned to WWE in 2022 only after realizing that it was time to return to his alma mater, but the way he left the company is something he never forgets till today.
Rhodes explained about his sudden exit from WWE in 2016
While Cody never spoke much about his disappointment with the company in 2016, he recently addressed that situation. Speaking on DDP Yoga, Cody explained how his sudden exit from the company not only changed his career but also led to several policy changes in WWE regarding the departure of so many talents.
Cody Rhodes revealed that his Stardust persona was affecting him and he wanted to escape it. Cody stated that his booking in the Stardust character was making him mentally worse even in terms of promos.
Rhodes said that he didn’t want to be just a guy who works hard and does the job when asked. He wanted to do more than that. “I want to give you more than my heart and soul, I had to get out. And that’s why it was abrupt how I got out,” said the WWE champion.
Cody was not happy with his position
Cody was so upset with his position that he announced he was leaving the company even before his release papers were done. “The American Nightmare” stated that he did it on purpose because he wanted to send a message to the top that they could sue him if they wanted, but he wasn’t happy with his position in the company.
Cody spent two years doing independent wrestling, where he honed his wrestling skills. In 2019, Cody started a new wrestling promotion with Tony Khan called All Elite Wrestling. Cody was the vice president of the company and had signed a five-year contract for the company. However, there were some differences between Tony and Cody, which led to Rhodes leaving the promotion in 2022. The same year, he made his stunning return to WWE and has been doing an amazing job since then.
