Graeme Smith, a former captain of South Africa and commissioner of the SA20 league, praised Virat Kohli as a fantastic chaser and expressed his belief that the Indian batting icon, Kohli, surpasses even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in terms of excellence throughout his international career. Kohli needs just a century to tie Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 tons in one-day international cricket. Scroll down to read Virat Kohli Reaches Sachin Tendulkar Record Of 49 ODI Tons.
Virat Kohli Reaches Sachin Tendulkar’s Record Of 49 ODI Tons
In an interview with ANI, Graeme Smith stated, “Virat has had an amazing career. However, I believe his one-day stats and record are astounding. Based on the caliber of work he has created over his global career, I believe he is better than Sachin. He is quite talented, especially with Chase. The manner in which he manages pursuits He is a vital player at the top of the order, along with Rohit Sharma, for handling pressure as the tournament progresses and for their outstanding batting performance. He can play a one-day game regardless of the circumstances surrounding him. Virat Kohli is the subject of a lot of talk, but I don’t think enough is said about how absurd his ODI record is. His one-day record is mind-blowing.”
The Indian team is playing brilliantly in the World Cup, winning each of its first six games with ease to maintain their perfect record. With a billion dreams of winning a third ODI World Cup, the entire team is coming together and playing as a cohesive unit.
“They have played such excellent cricket that they haven’t felt under any strain at all. India is usually formidable at home, but they appear unaffected by the added pressure that comes with a major tournament like the World Cup. Big players are using both a bat and a ball in their performances. Their biggest weakness is the injury to Hardik Pandya, which has made it difficult for them to balance their side. Nevertheless, having an extra bowler has helped them tremendously, since they have a very aggressive bowling and batting lineup. When they’re at their finest, they can destroy any opponent. They are a formidable opponent and a squad to defeat in the competition, as was to be expected,” Smith remarked.
The ankle injury that all-rounder Hardik Pandya sustained during the match against Bangladesh is the only concerning element for India. Afterwards, the star all-rounder was unable to play in the one-day international matches against England and New Zealand. The commissioner of the SA20 league thinks he can be just as important to India as Jansen is to the Proteas.
“Since Jansen can bat and bowl at No. 7 for South Africa, he has shown promise as an all-around player. Despite losing an all-round player, India is fortunate to have Jadeja, who can also play all-round roles. India has, in my opinion, recently attempted to use more front-line bowling options rather than playing an extra batter. It’s working for them thus far. They would like him to fully recuperate in time for the knockout round, but they also value his quality on the team. They were pushed the last time they played England. They simply took action,” Smith continued.
According to Graeme Smith, the current top-4 in the ICC World Cup 2023 points table will advance to the semi-finals based on how the competition has developed thus far.
“It is always difficult to forecast. I have thoughts. First is India, followed by South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and finally, New Zealand. “I believe that could be your probable Top-4 for the elimination rounds,” Smith said.
