During the match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kohli slapped Mathews with his bat in jest while he was getting a single off the delivery.
With just one ODI century away from matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record, Virat Kohli remarked on Tuesday that he had never imagined reaching so many hundreds and runs in his career.
In seven games, Kohli has amassed a century and four half-centuries. He fell one wicket shy of Tendulkar’s global record on October 19 when he hit 103 not out against Bangladesh in Pune, making it his 48th ODI century.
“If we talk about cricket, I had never thought of achieving it all. Where my career is? How God has blessed me with such a career span and performances,” Kohli stated to Star Sports.
“I had always seen myself doing this, but I never imagined the exact course of events that would lead to this. The way things are moving on your journey and in front of you cannot be planned by anyone. I hadn’t thought that I’d score so many hundreds and so many runs in these 12 years.”
He claimed that he had to alter his “discipline and lifestyle” since he had, at some point in his career, he realized he was not being professional.
“My main goal was to contribute to the team’s success and win games under challenging circumstances. I changed my lifestyle and discipline quite a bit along the way to achieve it. I’ve always been driven, but I wasn’t very professional. I now have a singular concentration on how I want to play the game. As a result, playing in that manner has allowed me to accomplish the outcomes I have,” said Kohli.
