Following an overwhelming 160-run thrashing of the Netherlands at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, India emerged victorious in the round-robin league of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, being the only side still unbeaten. India finished the league stage on a high note by posting a massive 410/4 total and then bundling the Netherlands for 250.
For the first time in World Cup history, five hitters scored fifty runs or more in an innings during this match. KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli all scored fifty runs or more, with Iyer and Rahul scoring hundreds.
The Indian fans had an amazing day seeing the bowling brilliance of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who each claimed a wicket during the match.

After the game, Dutch all-rounder Roelof Van Der Merwe, who also took wickets off of Virat Kohli, received a signed jersey from Kohli, which was a very kind gesture. Every player in the Netherlands team was saying goodbye to an unforgettable World Cup campaign. Despite coming in last in the competition, they managed to win two games against Bangladesh and South Africa.
During the game, Virat Kohli had his moments with the ball. He bowled three overs and removed Netherlands captain Scott Edwards. Virat’s delivery, which was going outside the leg, caught Edwards off guard. In the India vs. Netherlands game, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also rolled his arms and removed Teja Nidamanuru’s wicket to end the Netherlands’ innings. Virat Kohli was not the only part-time player to take a wicket.

After the league stage of the Cricket World Cup 2023, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and India advanced to the semi-finals. India was the only one of the ten teams that took part in the event to not have dropped a single game. Naturally, Indian stars dominated when Cricket Australia selected the ‘team of the tournament’ after the league stage of the competition. With the addition of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja to the 12-man squad, Virat Kohli was dubbed the team’s “captain.”
India has performed admirably overall so far in the competition, with each player helping the team achieve its objective of winning the championship. Throughout the league season, New Zealand won five of their nine games, while South Africa and Australia each lost two.
