In 2022, a video of a supporter of the Pakistan cricket team expressing concern on social media also went viral. In the video, a fan donning a Pakistani team shirt and having the national colors painted on her face was seen stating, “Mujhe Virat se bohot darr lagta hai (I am very afraid of Virat Kohli).”
She continues, smiling, “I don’t want India to win the semi-final, sorry. Woh jo aankhein dikhata hai na (the way he glances at you). I would like England to succeed. You can defeat the English.”
Rain forced the cancellation of the India vs. Pakistan game scheduled for Saturday at Pallekele. Pakistan was unable to begin their pursuit due to the play being abandoned due to the weather. Thus, both teams received the same number of points.
India had earlier been dismissed for 266 runs. Thanks to Shaheen Afridi’s four-wicket haul. Despite fifty-plus scores from Hardik Pandya (87) and Ishan Kishan (82) the left-arm bowler managed to keep the Indian squad at bay.
At one point, India was down to 66 for 4, but a 138-run stand between Hardik and Kishan helped them get back into the contest. Pakistan subsequently recovered, though, and took control of the situation. India’s momentum towards the finish was hindered by the three wickets apiece that Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf took. After winning the toss, India’s captain Rohit decided to bat first.
