Images purporting to depict filthy seats inside the Rajeev Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad went viral just before the ODI World Cup 2023. Since then, he has provided an explanation for his posts. He asserted that despite the venue’s overall renovation, the seats in the Western Terrace stand are still dirty. In Uppal, Hyderabad, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium will host three ODI World Cup games.
On Tuesday, October 3, a user of the social media site X shared many pictures of unclean seats and claimed they were acquired from a member of the Uppal Stadium crowd. He uploaded a second photo of his ticket from the exhibition game between Australia and Pakistan to prove his attendance after users questioned the authenticity of his post. The X user submitted a video shot inside the stadium as additional confirmation of its veracity.

When images and videos of the stadium seats in Hyderabad swiftly gained popularity on social media, fans criticised the Indian Cricket Board. After that, the X user submitted a few more postings and made it plain that only one of these stands was flawed.
In addition, he made it clear that his initial post on the matter was a reference to a picture he had posted in May showing the condition of the seats within the Western Terrace stands. He clarified his error on Twitter, writing, “My comments on the poor condition of seats in several stands at the Uppal Stadium have gone viral. Some individuals from abroad are attempting to profit. To be clear, only the Western Terrace stands’ outdated chairs exist in the stadium, which has recently been refurbished with brand-new seats.”
He continued, “HCA, it seems, ran out of time to replace every chair before the World Cup. However, they need to have cleaned up the old chairs in advance of the game. Nobody should question India’s ability to host an event because the stadium’s other amenities are great.”
