The Undertaker’s WrestleMania 30 defeat to Brock Lesnar is still one of the most shocking events in WWE history. His streak of winning 21 consecutive matches at WrestleMania events was broken by “The Beast Incarnate” in 2014. This was a huge shock to everyone in the arena that day and the fans who were watching it on TV at home. Prior to the match, WWE fans had just one question in their minds: whose decision was it to end the streak ?
Vince took a jib at Undertaker
It was later revealed that Vince McMahon had taken this decision and The Undertaker also agreed with it. However, now there is a twist in the story. In the recently released Netflix docuseries “Mr. McMahon,” which is based on the life of former WWE Chairman Vince, Taker stated that he came to know about the result of the match on the day of WrestleMania 30, but he does not remember anything about it due to a concussion he suffered at the beginning of the match.
“The streak is a big part of the attraction of WrestleMania, so I was going to win and the streak was gonna stay intact, but that day Vince walked in my dressing room and said, ‘Mark, I think we’re gonna put Brock over tonight.’ About 5-10 minutes into the match and I got concussed. The match went on for 25 minutes, but I can’t to this day recall being in that match,” said Taker.
However, Vince has a different opinion on The Deadman’s statement and he refuted Taker’s claim, saying that he doesn’t see when he got concussed in the match. McMahon seemingly took a dig at Taker, saying that Undertaker might not remember it because it was very traumatic for him.
“It was a last-minute decision, Mark wasn’t prepared for it, he was in some psychological shock. Looking back, I don’t see where Mark was concussed, it could have happened but I think Mark didn’t remember any of that because it was so traumatic for him,” said Vince McMahon.
The Deadman retired after cinematic WrestleMania 36 match
Whatever the case, the result of that match remains one of the most unexpected moments in WWE history. After that, “The Deadman” lost another match at WrestleMania 33 when he lost to Roman Reigns. Taker retired after WrestleMania 36, where he faced AJ Styles in a stunning match.
