Verona vs Bologna: Preview
Verona form analysis
Gialloblu survived relegation by the skin of their teeth, last season on goal difference, finishing in the 17th position. Verona made the perfect start to the new campaign by edging past Empoli 1-0 away courtesy of Bonazzoli’s second half strike. It was a resolute, disciplined performance.
They followed that up with an impressive 2-1 home victory over European contenders Roma, thanks to first half goals from Duda and Ngonge which proved enough despite Aouar’s reply.
However, Verona then came unstuck in a 1-3 home loss at the hands of Sassuolo last time out. Ngonge equalized but a second half Berardi brace condemned Verona to defeat.
Overall, it’s been an encouraging if uneven start to life under new coach Marco Baroni. At their best, Verona have proven tough to break down with clinical counters. But adding more consistent creativity and resilience is required if they are to push into the top half this season.
Bologna form analysis
Bologna’s last season saw them secure a comfortable top half of the table finish. This season began with a 0-2 home defeat to Serie A champions AC Milan as clinical finishes from Giroud and Pulisic saw them comfortably beaten.
They showed some improvement in their next match despite only managing a 1-1 draw away at Juventus. Ferguson gave them a shock lead before Vlahovic leveled as Bologna held on for a point.
Most recently, Bologna recorded their first victory by edging past Cagliari 2-1 at home. After falling behind, second half goals from Zirkzee and teenage debutant Fabbian completed the turnaround late on.
Overall, it’s been a mixed start to the campaign for Bologna under new coach Thiago Motta as they adapt to a new playing style. Creating more chances and maintaining intensity for 90 minutes are areas needing work. But the win over Cagliari provides a platform to build confidence and momentum after this uneven beginning.
