USA Stuns Pakistan in World Cup Tie: Fielding Flaws & Batting Concerns Exposed
You have to give it to the USA for maintaining such a calm and competitive spirit against Pakistan. That’s why the World Cup is very important, and what is even more important is all teams competing against each other.
It is a great way for smaller teams, though “small” should not be used because they have qualified for the World Cup, and they are definitely good teams. When a team like the USA comes up against a team like Pakistan, it is a test for both teams.
One might think this is going to be one-sided, with Pakistan beating the USA as decisively as possible. However, the USA almost made Pakistan choke while batting.
When the USA was chasing the target of 160, they played consistently and stuck to their plan. They were in great momentum to win the game against Pakistan but lost the plot in the end. Nonetheless, it is a good thing that the match ended in a tie.
Certainly, Pakistan has a lot to think about regarding their batting approach in World Cup matches. They have been quite conservative and also quite unprepared when it comes to playing in unfamiliar conditions.
Additionally, Pakistan is quite weak in fielding. In the super over, they conceded 18 runs, 8 of which were extras. One dropped catch and many other events during the match showed Pakistan’s inconsistency in fielding, which ultimately cost them the match.
The USA beating Pakistan by 5 runs is not an upset; it was on the cards because Pakistan is not a great team. They have a couple of good players, but it does not mean they are unbeatable. Monank Patel scored a brilliant 50 against Pakistan.
Looking at their bowling, Nosthush Kenjige and Netravalkar were brilliant. They did not allow Pakistan to capitalize on any phase of the game or gain any momentum throughout their batting.
Pakistan scored 43 runs off 42 balls, which is nowhere close to an ideal start in T20 cricket. Mohammad Irfan could not perform well, and Azam Khan is a consistent failure with no sign of improvement.
So, what is expected from Pakistan now? They are on the verge of exiting the tournament in the group stage. They have to face India, which will be a difficult task for them. Challenges won’t come easy for them.
They are too conservative with their batting approach, never trying to unleash themselves because, in their minds, they feared losing to the USA, and that’s exactly what happened.
