Team USA continued their strong start in the preparations for the 2023 FIBA World Cup as they defeated Slovenia by 30 points. The spectacular match took place in Malaga, Spain, on Saturday, and the American team held a 10-point lead in the first quarter. They dominated every minute of the game and extended their lead to 30 points at the end to win 92-62. Four players from their team scored in double digits, which included Austin Reeves, Tyrese Halliburton, and Jalen Brunson. Anthony Edwards was the leading scorer for the team with 15 points.
Slovenia was Doncic-less in the match
Slovenia missed Dallas Mavericks’ star Doncic heavily, who was ruled out of the team just hours before this match. On August 4, he collided his knee with a player during Slovenia’s game against Greece. On Friday, August 11, he was also part of the team for the match against Spain but was held out of Saturday’s game against the USA as a precaution because this game was scheduled for the second night in a row.
America grabbed the opportunity to finish the game early and made an easy lead of 16 points at the break, and after 20 minutes, they emerged victorious with the same discipline. Team USA will face Spain in the next matchup
Team USA had their first match against Puerto Rico, which they won by 117-74. Now they will face the No. 1 ranked team, Spain, on Sunday (August 13)) in the next exhibition game. Although the team full of youngsters has defeated many underdogs, facing Spain will be different and a tough challenge. Spain has dominated international tournaments, and they are certainly one of the tactically strongest teams at the international level. Their roster also includes many veterans who have flourished in European leagues.
