WWE’s King of the Ring tournament saw Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio share an emotional moment after their first-round matchup. Now WWE has released that unseen footage on social media. Kofi and The Master of the 619 are two of the participants in this year’s King of the Ring tournament. The two high-flyers faced each other at the WWE event in Georgia.
The match was special because it was their first one-on-one clash ever, which was a great entertainment booster for fans inside the Macon Centreplex Coliseum. Kofi hit Mysterio with a “Trouble in Paradise” and got the win. The Giant Killer missed the 619 that allowed Kingston to capitalize his mistake.
The two superstars got a huge cheer from the crowd
The New Day member showed his respect to Rey Mysterio after their iconic match. The two men shook their hands, with Kofi helping Mysterio get up on his feet and raising his fans. They got a huge cheer from the audience in the arena. After this win, Kingston has moved to the quarter-finals of the tournament and he will now face Gunther, who defeated Sheamus to advance. It will be a hard matchup for Kofi since The New Day has been dealing with the Imperium for a while now.
Kofi is excited about new matchups
The New Day stayed on RAW following the WWE Draft and now Kofi is excited about facing new tag teams soon. He said on the Battlegrounds podcast that there are exciting new matchups for him and Xavier Woods.
“We got a lot of new tag teams to mix it up…But now that everything, the dust has settled, as they say, I think it’s great, it is going to be amazing. RAW is amazing, totally stacked right now with all the people that we got on here, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we do and what we bring to the table,” said Kofi.
