Union Berlin vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Preview
Union Berlin form analysis
Die Eisernen’s recent run of form has been underwhelming after their strong start, with a series of poor results. It began with a disappointing 0-2 home loss to Hoffenheim, conceding sloppy goals in each half and lacking attacking threat. Things got worse with a shock 1-0 away defeat to Heidenheim in the cup, failing to break their resilient opponents down.
Next was a high scoring 2-4 home loss to Dortmund in an entertaining game, twice leading through Füllkrug and Gosens but collapsing defensively after halftime. Their struggles continued with a 0-3 thrashing away at Stuttgart, falling behind early and never recovering. Most recently they lost 0-2 at home to Werder Bremen, with an own goal and late second condemning them to defeat.
Overall, Union Berlin’s previously solid defense has cracked open, conceding 11 goals in this spell. Furthermore, the attack has misfired, scoring just twice. After such an impressive start, this poor run of form needs correcting quickly if they are to push for Europe this season.
Eintracht Frankfurt form analysis
Eintracht Frankfurt’s recent run of form has been up and down, mixing disappointing results with impressive performances. They started with a dour goalless home draw against Freiburg, lacking attacking spark. This continued with a poor 0-2 away loss to Wolfsburg, conceding either side of halftime and unable to respond.
They bounced back well with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Heidenheim in the cup, scoring once in each half to restore confidence. Building momentum, Frankfurt then produced their best performance – a stunning 1-3 away win at Hoffenheim thanks to goals from Marmoush, Knauff and Skhiri. However, they ended this run with a six goal thriller in a 3-3 home draw with Dortmund. Where they were twice leading by two goals but conceding late to drop points.
Overall, Frankfurt have shown they can score goals consistently but their defending remains a worry, keeping just 1 clean sheet.
