UFC fighter Casey Kenney was arrested on August 16 on multiple felony charges following an alleged domestic violence incident on July 21 that was recorded by his ex-girlfriend’s mother. Now, along with four other felonies (three for assault and one for disorderly conduct), he is charged with two accounts of kidnapping and one for aggravated assault.
Kenney might face four years of sentence
Maricopa County court records show that Kenney faces a total of six charges: a class 2 felony for kidnapping, class 4 for assault by strangling and four misdemeanor charges. The class 2 felony can lead to a minimum sentence of four years to a maximum of 12.5 years in prison if found guilty. The first incident was reported in July, when the alleged victim’s mother reported the incident through social media and accused the UFC fighter of domestic violence.
According to Phoenix Police, when their officers arrived on the scene, they found an adult female with visible bruises on her body, who stated she had been assaulted. Paramedics treated her and investigators interviewed her about the whole incident. The investigation is still going on and more details about the alleged dispute are provided in a probable cause statement that was released on Wednesday. The statement claims that Kenney allegedly kidnapped and assaulted Jasmine Mendez on July 21 between 11:00 p.m. and July 22 at 12:14 a.m.
The report further states that Kenney allegedly hit, slapped, headbutted and choked Mendez for several hours that led to visible bruises on her body. Mendez tried to escape during those hours but was eventually held by Kenney, who reportedly threatened to shoot anyone who tried to intervene.
