Udinese vs AC Milan: Preview
Udinese form analysis
Le Zebrette come into the new year just outside the Champions League places after an excellent first half of the campaign. Their most recent result was a creditable 2-2 away draw at Fiorentina, taking the lead through early substitute Sandi Lovric strike before Firenze old boy Florian Thauvin put them back ahead midway through the second half. However, Udinese conceded late on when Nzola netted an equalizing penalty.
That stalemate came on the back of a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Champions League chasing Lazio. With only a second half Wallace strike providing hope of a fightback after falling two goals behind. Prior to that though, Udinese notched an excellent 3-0 home win over struggling Bologna thanks to goals from Rodrigo Pereyra, Lorenzo Lucca and Martin Payero capping off a dominant display. On the whole, the coach has built an organized unit balancing defensive solidity with clinical counter attacking. Spearheaded by the excellent partnership between creative wide man Pereyra and target man Lucca.
AC Milan form analysis
AC Milan come into the new year leading Serie A after an excellent festive period. Their most recent result was a comfortable 3-1 home win over top four rivals Roma despite missing several first team regulars. Racing into a two goal lead through early Yacine Adli opener and veteran striker Olivier Giroud before a late Theo Hernandez strike sealed the result after the visitors briefly threatened a comeback. That excellent display built on a professional 3-0 away victory at Empoli courtesy of goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Giroud and substitute Charles Traore.
Prior to Christmas, Milan did just enough in a tight 1-0 home win over Champions League chasing Sassuolo thanks to a second half Christian Pulisic strike. Milan’s only dropped points recently came in an entertaining 2-2 draw away at struggling Salernitana, where Luka Jovic netted a last minute equalizer to salvage a point and preserve their unbeaten start after Fikayo Tomori’s early opener was overturned. On the whole, the manager has added impressive squad depth to the reigning champions this term.
