Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk Undisputed Heavyweight Championship Fight Postponed Due to Injury
The much-anticipated undisputed heavyweight championship clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk has been postponed following a severe injury sustained by the British boxer during sparring.
Fury’s camp disclosed that the injury, a significant cut requiring stitches, has ruled him out of the bout. The scheduled fight, slated for February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will now be rescheduled.
Fury, the reigning WBC Champion, was poised to face off against Usyk in a unification bout, with Usyk holding the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles.
The setback occurred when Fury suffered a cut during sparring sessions, necessitating medical attention and ruling him out of the highly anticipated showdown in Riyadh.
The postponement was confirmed by Queensbury, Frank Warren’s promotional company, expressing disappointment over the turn of events.
A spokesperson stated, “While this news is a significant disappointment after the considerable efforts to bring this historic event to fruition, we remain committed to rescheduling the fight at the earliest opportunity, pending Tyson’s recovery assessment.”
Fury expressed his devastation over the setback, apologizing to all parties involved and vowing to work towards rescheduling once his injury heals.
Taking to Instagram, Fury reassured fans of his fitness, stating, “Can’t help getting injured in sparring, but what I can say is Usyk was in trouble. I am in fantastic shape. I will reschedule as soon as I can. 2024 is a massive year for Team GK.”
Frank Warren revealed to TalkSport that Fury sustained the injury during sparring in Riyadh, where he collided with a Croatian heavyweight, resulting in an elbow-induced cut.
Egis Kilmas, manager of Oleksandr Usyk, has a quite different reaction to whole got injured while sparring sage. According to Ring Magazine, Kilmas was quoted as saying, “Tyson Fury is a F*king coward who will do anything to not face Usyk, and his asked his bitch to hit him with frying pan in his brow.”
The postponed bout between Fury and Usyk had significant implications, as the winner would have become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. Usyk, having triumphed over Anthony Joshua twice, was poised for another shot at boxing glory.
