Iron Mike Bites Back: Tyson and Paul Trade Verbal Jabs in Heated Press Conference
The much-anticipated bout between boxing legend Mike Tyson and YouTube star Jake Paul got even spicier on Thursday as the two fighters met for a second press conference. Unlike their previous encounter where cordiality reigned, this time, animosity took center stage.
Gone were the hugs and compliments. Tyson, 30 years Paul’s senior, took the first swipe, calling out Paul’s physique. “He’s fat,” Tyson declared to a cheering crowd, questioning Paul’s dedication despite training for a heavyweight fight.
Paul, unfazed, countered by referencing one of boxing’s biggest upsets – Mike Tyson’s first professional loss to Buster Douglas. “Buster Douglas was fat, am I right?” Paul taunted, vowing to finish Tyson faster than the legendary boxer did.
Tyson, however, remained unfazed. A chuckle escaped his lips as he dismissed the comparison. The back-and-forth continued, with Tyson riling up the crowd and questioning Paul’s knockout power despite his recent first-round victories.
“He couldn’t even knock out [Nate] Diaz,” Tyson scoffed, rattling off names of Paul’s past opponents who weren’t knocked out despite lacking Tyson’s size or experience. “Little children,” Tyson concluded dismissively.
Paul, instead of excuses, promised a different outcome when they meet in July. “Mike will be put to sleep,” Paul declared, vowing to silence the doubters.
While Tyson dominated the crowd’s favor, Paul came prepared with his own barbs. He invoked the name of Tyson’s late trainer, Cus D’Amato, claiming he’d be the one teaching Tyson how to box.
The press conference continued with both fighters throwing verbal punches, though the crowd clearly favored Tyson’s barbs. Paul even attempted to invoke Tyson’s late trainer, Cus D’Amato, in a bid to get under his skin.
“I respect Mike, he’s a legend,” Paul said. “But it’s time, it’s my time now. There’s a reason why I have the same birthday as Cus D’Amato, because I’m going to teach you how to f*cking box, Mike.”
“I can’t even get mad at this guy,” Tyson concluded. “Because everybody knows this guy is talking out of his ass.”
The heated press conference served as a reminder of the immense hype surrounding this fight. With fight night approaching, expect the trash talk to only intensify.
