Twente form analysis
The Tukkers began this run of games in shaky fashion, falling 2-0 down at home to Excelsior before mounting an impressive comeback, Ugalde and a Van Wolfswinkel brace overturning the deficit for a 4-2 win. However, defensive issues persisted next game as Twente conceded a late equalizer away to Sparta Rotterdam despite goals from Steijn and youngster Unuvar, squandering a lead twice. Signs of improvement followed though, as Twente bounced back to beat AZ 2-1 at home, with Ugalde again on target twice to flip the game after going behind early.
Hopes of momentum were checked with a 1-0 loss away to NEC next, the defense breached early on by Verdonk which proved decisive despite second half pressure. A cleaner defensive display followed in a solid 0-0 draw away to rivals Feyenoor. So while the comeback win over Excelsior and flip of the AZ game showed spirit, Joseph Oosting’s side must address scoring depth issues and defensive lapses if they are to remain in the title picture as dark horses.
RKC Waalwijk form analysis
RKC Waalwijk started this run of games with a disappointing 1-0 loss away to struggling Fortuna Sittard, conceding late to Noslin. They showed spirit to fight back for a 1-1 draw away to Utrecht next game however, Kramer converting a penalty on the stroke of halftime to cancel out Jensen’s opener. But defensive issues persisted in their next match, losing 2-1 at home to Heracles despite Kramer leveling from the spot – falling behind to an Engels goal after equalizing.
RKC produced their best performance of this spell in a credible 4-1 loss away at Ajax. The inconsistency continued last game however, as despite Verschueren’s own goal gifting them the lead, RKC conceded an 82nd minute equalizer at home to draw 1-1 with Sparta. So while the ability to score goals remains through set pieces and moments of individual brilliance like Kramer, RKC must tighten up defensively and reduce concentration lapses if they are to turn plucky performances into improved results.
