Troy Deeney Predicts Chelsea Move for £60m Premier League Star
Former Premier League forward Troy Deeney has weighed in on the transfer speculation surrounding Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, predicting a possible move to Chelsea for the Swedish star.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Deeney praised Isak’s clinical abilities and suggested that Stamford Bridge could be a realistic destination for the 25-year-old.
“He’s a finisher,” Deeney said.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea get him. But they’ve spent a lot of money on everyone basically, so I don’t know if they would go again. But Isak is a proper finisher.”
Deeney’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about Chelsea’s search for attacking reinforcements, despite the recent form of their current forwards Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.
Isak’s Newcastle Journey
Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022 in a £60m deal, and he has since become a key player for Eddie Howe’s team. In 78 appearances across all competitions, he has netted an impressive 40 goals, showcasing his ability to deliver on big occasions.
His Premier League record stands out, with 35 goals in 61 appearances, underlining his status as one of the division’s most reliable finishers.
Despite his success at St James’ Park, speculation about his future has been fueled by Newcastle’s form this season. Reports suggest Isak could explore other options if the Magpies fail to secure European football, making him a potential target for top clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal.
Chelsea’s Striker Situation
The Blues have long struggled to find a consistent No. 9, cycling through a host of high-profile names in recent years. This season, however, the duo of Jackson and Nkunku has begun to show promise, combining for 16 goals across all competitions so far.
Even so, Chelsea’s ambition to reestablish themselves among Europe’s elite means they’re constantly linked with some of the game’s top talents. Isak, with his speed, technical ability, and finishing prowess, would fit the profile of a striker who could thrive in Mauricio Pochettino’s system.
A Potential Transfer Battle
Chelsea aren’t the only club reportedly eyeing Isak. Arsenal, too, have been linked with the Swedish forward, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the transfer rumors.
Paul Merson, the former Arsenal midfielder, recently urged Chelsea to “break the bank” for Isak, emphasizing the striker’s potential to become one of the best in the world.
For now, Isak remains committed to Newcastle, but as the January transfer window approaches, the speculation is only likely to intensify. Whether Deeney’s prediction proves accurate remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that Alexander Isak will be one of the most talked-about names in the months to come.
