India skipper Virat Kohli has severely condemned the social media abuse directed at pacer Mohammed Shami after Pakistan defeated India by ten wickets in their opening encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Trolls, however, have gone too far in their hatred of Kohli, sending rape threats to his and Anushka Sharma’s toddler daughter Vamika. It is disheartening to see Virat Kohli’s daughter Vamika receiving this hate.
Virat stated that attacking someone because of their religion is ‘pathetic,’ and that discriminating against someone because of their religion is something he has never considered. Soon after the match between India and Pakistan finished, Shami was exposed to violent online bullying and abuse on Instagram and Twitter, in which he conceded 43 runs in 3.5 overs. Many current and former cricketers denounced Shami’s abuse on social media.
Virat Kohli’s daughter Vamika:
In response to the criticism Shami received on social media, Virat referred to the trolls as a “bunch of cowardly people.” The cricketer said, “There’s a reason we’re on the field and not a bunch of spineless people on social media who don’t have the courage to actually speak to anyone in person.” Behind our entities, go after our folks on social media and mock them. That has become a source of entertainment in today’s world. Which is both unpleasant and sad to behold. Because it represents the very lowest level of human potential that one can operate at. That’s how I see these folks.”
“Individually, we understand what we want to do on the field, as well as the character strength and mental toughness that we possess. Exactly what we’re doing on the field, and none of them is even in the vicinity to even consider doing something like that. They lack the confidence and the nerve to do so. That’s how I see things. All of the drama on the surface is based solely on people’s frustrations and lack of self-confidence and compassion. As a result, they find it entertaining to go after others. So, as a group, we recognise the importance of sticking together, supporting individuals, and focusing on our respective skills” He stated.

But Virat’s rant against trolls backfired. And they went on to throw hatred and rude words at his young daughter, as well as rape threats.
While Mohammed Shami was chastised for his performance. Virat fans quickly turned their attention to Anushka Sharma, captain Virat Kohli’s wife. A section of Twitter users blamed and relentlessly mocked the actress for Kohli and Team India’s poor performance. Some people resurrected the couple’s earlier plea to refrain from lighting fireworks during Diwali.
