Travis Head Gets Hit on Hand, Sustains a Fracture
An unfortunate news has stuck the Australian cricket team on the eve of the World Cup 2023. Australian opener Travis Head who has been in red hot form for last few months, has sustained a fracture in his left hand during the fourth ODI against South Africa at SuperSport Park.
The day in Centurian couldn’t have been worse for Australia. The 164-run runs had already vanquished the team and the broken hand of Travis Head has become a headache the management can’t get rid off, especially knowing that the World Cup 2023 is only few days away.
The head coach of Australian team Andrew McDonald in the post match conference said that Head has sustained a confirmed hand fracture and things will further be assessed about the nature of fracture and what kind of time frame it will need for recovery.
Klaasen Delivers Epic Knock as South Africa Beats Australia
Things were going well for Australia until the second ODI. Since then, only struggle and tough luck has followed them. Losing Travis Head will be a big blow to Australia, he was their best player and his absence will allow Cameron Green to take part in the fifth and final ODI at the Wanderers on Sunday.
The 29-year-old got hit on hand with a menacing delivery in the 15th over bowled by Gerald Coetzee. Without no confirmation of his return, captain Mitchell Marsh is expected to move to the upper order and Green will find his way back in the team after McDonald told media that he has been given green signal by medical assessment team.
What if Travis Head Doesn’t Get Fit Before World Cup 2023
First of all, it will no less than a tragedy for the team as well as the man himself. Head has been in terrific form for Australia and this fracture has befallen on his at a wrong time. But as it is said, this could create an opportunity for someone else.
Marnus Labuschagne who missed out the provisional squad for the World Cup 2023 may find his way back to the squad if unluckily Head misses out. Mitchell Marsh will move to the top order as he did during the ODI series against Australia and had a pretty good run.
In the post match conference, when asked about injury update on Head, coach McDonald said, “The nature of what time frame that (injury) lends itself to, that will be assessed tomorrow.”
“He’s going to go in for more scans tomorrow to get a detail of that, then we’ll work out the management of it from there.”
“I’m not a medical person but I think it’s a bit higher up than the finger itself … it’s in a joint (in the hand) somewhere. Fingers crossed with the World Cup fast approaching.”
With Pat Cummmins, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc have missed the South African tour due to the injuries. It’s not a nice picture of the Australian camp, especially just around the world cup.
