Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton: Preview
Tottenham Hotspur form analysis
Hotspur have experienced inconsistent form in recent Premier League matches, with two wins, two defeats and a draw from their last five games. On 26th November, Spurs beat Aston Villa 1-2 away from home thanks to goals from Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero, despite the hosts equalizing before halftime. However, their next match saw them concede a late equalizer at home to draw 3-3 with Manchester City in a thrilling encounter, despite twice leading through Son Heung-Min and Lo Celso strikes. Tottenham then suffered a disappointing 1-2 home loss to West Ham, with Cristian Romero’s early opener overturned by second half goals from Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse.
Spurs responded by hammering Newcastle 4-1 in their next match, powered by a Richarlison brace and strikes from Destiny Udogie and Son from the penalty spot. Most recently though, Tottenham reverted to inconsistent form as they limped to a narrow 2-0 win away at struggling Nottingham Forest, with Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski netting either side of halftime to seal the three points. Overall, while Tottenham have shown they can score goals aplenty on their day, they have struggled defensively at times and have been prone to lapses in concentration – something they will need to improve if they are to sustain a push for the top four.
Everton form analysis
Everton have shown signs of improvement in recent Premier League matches, recovering from a 3-0 loss to Manchester United with two wins and a draw from their next three games. Against Nottingham Forest on 2nd December, the Toffees grinded out a 1-0 away win thanks to a second half Dwight McNeil strike. They built on that result by comfortably dispatching Newcastle 3-0 at home, with late goals from McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucouré and Beto securing the points. Everton then claimed their most impressive victory of this run, beating top four challengers Chelsea 2-0 through strikes from Doucouré and Lewis Dobbin.
Most recently, the Toffees made it back-to-back wins with a clinical 2-0 triumph away at struggling Burnley, sealed by first half goals from Alex Iwobi and Michael Keane. After finding goals and wins hard to come by earlier in the season, Everton now seem to have hit their stride with three victories in their last four matches. Eight goals scored and none conceded in this period points to improvements at both ends of the pitch. Building momentum with their new-look squad will be key if Sean Dyche’s side are to pull further clear of the drop zone.
