Torino vs Inter Milan: Preview
Torino form analysis
Toro started this recent run of games positively with an impressive 0-3 away win at Salernitana thanks to goals from Buongiorno and a Radonjić brace. However, they were unable to build on that performance, as a 1-1 home draw with Roma followed after losing their lead late on. Things got worse for Torino as they suffered a 0-2 home defeat to Lazio, struggling to create chances. A 0-0 draw at home to Verona displayed some defensive solidity but their attacking issues persisted. Most recently, Torino lost the Turin derby 0-2 to rivals Juventus, with the defence breached twice in the second half.
Overall, after the initial high of the win at Salernitana, Torino’s form has tapered off. 1 goal in their last 4 games highlights their lack of cutting edge in attack. While the defence has been generally solid, lapses have cost them. Manager Ivan Jurić will aim to rediscover their early season confidence and fluency going forward. If he can get creative players like Vlasic and Radonjić clicking, Torino have enough quality to turn draws into wins. But reinstating an attacking threat is crucial after scoring just once in their last 360 minutes of action.
Inter Milan form analysis
Inter Milan’s recent Serie A results demonstrate a team full of attacking threat but prone to defensive lapses. They started this run in stunning fashion, destroying rivals AC Milan 5-1 at home as Mkhitaryan and Thuram dominated. A hard fought 0-1 away win at Empoli followed thanks to Dimarco’s goal. However, defensive issues resurfaced in a 1-2 home loss to Sassuolo, despite leading through Dumfries. Inter bounced back with an emphatic 0-4 demolition of Salernitana as Martinez bagged a sensational hat-trick. But their inconsistency returned as they blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home with Bologna, with the defence breached twice.
Overall, Inter clearly have an abundance of talent in attack with Martinez, Mkhitaryan and Dzeko impressing. But new coach Simone Inzaghi has been unable to establish defensive solidity, as they have conceded in every game during this spell. If Inzaghi can improve their resilience and concentration at the back, Inter have all the tools to reclaim the Scudetto. However, cutting out individual errors must be the priority. Going forward Inter have the firepower, but they must strike better balance to challenge again.
