In the history of cricket, this was one of the most entertaining games, with both sides fighting for supremacy throughout the 40 overs. The game was played in Centurion in March 2023, and both sides did not have their full-strength squads as a few members had already flown to India for the most coveted Indian Premier League.
Batting first, put in by South Africa, West Indies could not get off to a flying start as they lost Brandon King in the first few deliveries. However, Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers took matters into their own hands and stitched a 135-run partnership within 60 deliveries. Romario Shepherd, Rovman Powell, and Odean Smith added further fuel at the fag end of the innings to post a daunting 258 runs on the board.
Chasing an insurmountable target, Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks scored a century partnership before de Kock departed at 152, soon after scoring a century. Despite the wickets falling at regular intervals, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen ensured the victory for Proteas with seven deliveries remaining. The game saw a total of 517 runs scored.
